Beyond Microchips

How many times has a client asked you if that microchip you’re implanting has GPS? I was first asked that question by a pet owner years ago, before I even had a phone with GPS! It seems this time technology had to catch up with the consumer, instead of the other way around.

Tagg the Pet Tracker is a special collar fitted with GPS technology. It allows the pet owner to create a virtual fence around their pet and receive text alerts if the pet “escapes”. Pet owners can then track down their pet online or with their smartphone.

This product came out last year but recently came down in price and has had some pretty solid reviews. It will be interesting to watch how this technology evolves, and if any of the major micro-chipping companies look to launch a similar product.

According to the Tagg site, they are open to additional business partnerships. It might be exciting to see these products pop up for sale in a veterinary hospital!
