    Is there an issue with not having resistance to forward pushing and the leg just being moved backward in programming normal gaiting patterns?

    In my experience, I have acutally treaded some dogs backwards in short intervals of time not only for proprioception, but also for strengthening of the hamstrings, or for them to do an active stretch. Hope that helps give insight for the question earlier.

    I would concur with the comment made. You just need to be creative, and using this tool to tread the patient backwards can add much more to your treatment.
