Basset Hound - Joint Issues Since Puppyhood

  • July 9, 2015 10:49 AM EDT

I have a boarding client, a Basset, 13 months old, that has had joint issues since puppyhood. He was limping when he was 6 months old, maybe before. He was told by his primary vet that it was growing pains, but he continues to have regular flare ups. When he does, he also seems lethargic as well. He will sometimes trip and fall, he will limp on different limbs at different times. They are going to soon get a second opinion once they return from their overseas trip. Is this a problem commonly seen in dwarf breeds?

Yes, this is pretty common in chondrodystrophoid (dwarf) breeds and definitely want to get it definitively diagnosed and characterized so best options can be pursued.
