Preparing for a difficult conversation and grounding oneself

    Veterinary professionals frequently find themselves in a position of having to deliver difficult news to their clients - think ... bad diagnosis or an end-of-life conversation. Being grounded and truly present for that conversation is essential to conveying empathy and supporting everyone in that room.

    As busy and hectic as our days can be, taking a moment or two to just breathe and prepare oneself for that conversation can make a huge difference in how we come across during those tender moments. In this segment, counseling psychologist Dr. Stephanie Langston demonstrates a brief grounding exercise that can be helpful before embarking in conversations of this sort.
