Vision loss with Golden Retriever Pigmentary Uveitis

    This question was submitted during the webinar titled: PU - What's That? Golden Retriever Pigmentary Uveitis:

    Since GRPU is slow to progress, do you see a slow loss of vision? Or is vision loss more sudden if / when glaucoma develops? 

    Dr. Wendy Townsend, DVM, MS, DACVO responded:

    So we can see a slow, minor loss of vision depending on the extent of the pigment deposition and cataract formation. Most of these dogs that do field work still continue to mark well, but some owners note that in particular lighting conditions (often really bright days) that they may have some difficulties. Then if they develop glaucoma we see a more sudden loss of vision.
