Question submitted by the audience in our recent webinar: Understanding Steroid Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis and Other Inflammatory Neurological Disorders of Dogs:

Are there truly environmental factors that can also contribute to SRMA and that it is not simply genetic?  If so is this a fact or just conjecture?

Answer by: Karen R. Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology):

Environmental factors are proposed to contribute to the development of SRMA, but to date no such factors have been identified that play to role. Potential triggers that have been explored include the time of vaccination, environment, seasonality, sex and neuter status.
