Many of our juvenile patients - dogs and cats under a year of age - often have abnormalities in the oral cavity. If not identified and treated early, these problems can lead to discomfort, impaired function, and can be much more difficult to correct as the animal ages.

This presentation focuses on the more common dental and maxillofacial conditions seen in juvenile patients. Participants will come away equiped with knowledge and skills to conduct a thorough oral exam and craft treatment plans for affected dogs and cats. This discussion includes:

  • How to identify dental and skeletal malocclusions in dogs and cats
  • Treatment options for malocclusions
  • Repair options for cleft palates and best timing for surgical repair
  • Other maxillofacial and dental abnormalities that are seen in juvenile patients (only) and how to address them
