Management of patients en route to veterinary hospital

What should be advised to handlers of hunting dogs or search and rescue animals that get bitten by a snake in the field - prior to transport to the veterinary facility?

Actually, pick up the dog , if possible, and take it to aemergency hospital that has antivenin ASAP. There is nothing you can do in the field. Cutting and applying suction is rarely beneficial and takes up too much time and can cause more bleeding.

So sorry for the technical glitch last night.

No problem. I have had other ER vets say to give 1mg/kg benadryl in the field and transport ASAP. I was interested to hear you say, no antihistamines.
