When evaluating a patient with skin or ear disease, both cytologic examination and culture and sensitivity are tests that can aid the clinician in ruling in or out an infectious or inflammatory component.

In this Ask The Expert segment, veterinary dermatologist Dr. Peter Hill explains more about the utility and role of these tests and why results may be discordant in some patients. He also discusses ear disease and the interpretation of an ear culture and sensitivity result.
