The Increasing Threat of Canine Leptospirosis - Keys to Diagnosis, Therapy & Prevention

CE Event Information

  • Description:
Over recent years, leptospirosis has received increased attention regarding its emergence and spread in dogs throughout North America. This talk will review fundamental and advanced techniques in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of this often fatal disease.

Highlights from recent research by the authors into the epidemiology of this disease will be provided to allow for targeted patient care, veterinary awareness and client education. Our experts also answer questions like:

    - Do I need to worry about leptospirosis where I live, and if so, which serovars (strains) are most common?
    - Do commonly administered vaccines protect dogs against all Leptospira serovars?
    - How effective is the Lepto vaccine and are vaccine reactions common?
    - If one dog in a household is diagnosed with leptospirosis, do owners need to worry about other dogs in the household?
    - Does vaccination interfere with diagnostic testing for Lepto?
