Cats have unusual biliary tracts that make them susceptible to the development of inflammatory disease such as cholecystitis and cholangitis. This is in part associated with the “common channel” where the pancreatic and biliary duct join prior to entry into the duodenum on the major duodenal papilla. In addition, there is increasing recognition that there are congenital abnormalities that also predispose cats to biliary infection such as ductal plate abnormalities.

In this live and interactive webinar, we will discuss these predisposing factors and outline a diagnostic and therapeutic approach to cats with inflammatory biliary disease. Discussion will include:

  • Clinical presentation findings in cats with inflammatory biliary disease
  • Clinical pathologic and ultrasound findings that support a diagnosis of biliary disease
  • How to determine whether bacterial infection is a complicating factor in cats with inflammatory biliary disease
  • The approach to formulating a therapeutic plan for cats with acute neutrophilic, chronic neutrophilic, and chronic lymphocytic cholangitis
