An integral part of every veterinary and pet professional's job is to communicate with the owner(s) of the animal in their care. When it comes to delivering or discussing difficult news, a wide variety of factors can come into play that can impact the perception of the pet owner as well as every other individual involved in the situation.

In this segment counseling psychologist Dr. Stephanie Langston addresses the topic of delivering difficult news to pet owners and provides tips for ensuring that these interactions are productive and that the needs of all involved are met. The discussion includes 5 steps to preparing oneself for delicate conversations and the delivery of difficult news to clients, how to listen actively and with empathy, and resources.

This is an encore presentation of Dr. Langston's contribution to the VetVine Human-Animal Bond program.
