VetVine Client Care

There are a number of treatment options to consider for managing moderate to severe cases of canine atopic dermatitis. These include drugs that combat the abnormal immune response and/or the pruritus (itch) pathway. In his discussion on this topic, Dr. Jason Pieper - a board certified veterinary dermatologist - discussed an array of considerations including corticosteroids, cyclosporine, JAK inhibitors (e.g. Apoquel® and ZenreliaTM), monoclonal antibodies (e.g. Cytopoint), as well as allegen specific immunotherapy.
ZenreliaTM is one of the newer drugs that has shown to benefit many dogs. This drug also comes with a black box warning as it relates to the administration of vaccines - specifically the discontinuation of ZenreliaTM within a period of time around vaccination. In this excerpt, Dr. Pieper addresses a frequently asked question: what should caregivers do to treat these dogs during that recommended pause of ZenreliaTM administration?
