Preventive Vaccines In Dogs With Epilepsy

Neurology

This question was submitted during a past webinar on the topic of Canine Epilepsy:

Question:
Are there any preventative vaccines I should be concerned about (avoid) for a dog with epilepsy?

Answer by Karen Muñana, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology):
I recommend that dogs with epilepsy continue to obtain their preventative vaccines as scheduled. Currently, there is no evidence that vaccines should be avoided in dogs with epilepsy. Caregivers of dogs with epilepsy are encouraged to speak to their primary care veterinarian to determine what vaccines and vaccination schedule is more appropriate for their dog.
