This question was submitted related to the webinar titled Spotlight on Feline Chronic Stomatitis - Current Concepts and Future Directions:
Question:
You mentioned doing "periodontal treatment" on remaining teeth in cats that only have partial-mouth extractions performed for chronic stomatitis. What does that mean exactly? What does that include?
Answer provided by Boaz Arzi, DVM, DAVDC, DEVDC, FF-AVDC-OMFS:
This means sub and supra gingival cleaning / periodontal treatment with an ultrasonic scaler and hand instruments if needed. This is for situations where the canine and incisor teeth do not exhibit periodontitis on dental radiographs and a judgment can be made to not extract those teeth (and only extract the premolar and molar teeth).
