Question:
Do you ever use any type of oral rinses or water additives for cats with stomatitis?
Answer provided by Boaz Arzi, DVM, DAVDC, DEVDC, FF-AVDC-OMFS:
I am not using or advocating the use of water additives. My reasons are that:
(1) the transit time in the mouth is very quick and the likelihood of those fluids staying in the mouth to have an effect is low, and (2) this is the only water source for the pet, and those additives may not have a robust safety profile.
Regardless, it is my view that water source should be as clean as possible.
