Feline Idiopathic Cystitis - Similar To What Happens In Humans?

Internal Medicine

This question was submitted during a past webinar on the topic of feline idiopathic cystis:

Question:
Is there any similarity between the urologic syndrome of cats / feline idiopathic cystitis and the interstitial cystis condition that occurs in humans?

Answer by Dennis Chew, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)
Yes - QUITE SIMILAR - just like in cats, flares or acute episodes happen during stressful conditions and tend to get better when the environment is better (MEMO). It is a diagnosis of exclusion in both species. Urgency can be quite severe in people as it is in some cats.
