Eye Problems In Golden Retrievers

Ophthalmology

This question was submitted during the webinar titled: PU - What's That? Golden Retriever Pigmentary Uveitis:

Question: Are there eye problems - aside from PU - that are more common in Golden Retrievers than other breeds?

Dr. Wendy Townsend, DVM, MS, DACVO responded:
Goldens can have inherited cataracts – the posterior polar cataracts. The European lines have some issues with inherited glaucoma. We can also see some forms of progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) in Golden Retrievers. These are all problems that also occur in other breeds.
