Dog With Pancreatitis ... Cannot Give MCT Oil

Neurology

This question was submitted during a past webinar on the topic of Canine Epilepsy:

Question:
My dog has had pancreatitis so I had to stop giving him MCT oil. Would omega 3s also be dangerous for him to use?

Answer provided by a subject matter expert panelist:

Sorry that you had this experience. MCT oil should not cause pancreatitis. In people it is even given for people with pancreatitis, as it is metabolized differently than long chain fatty acids. I would not give fish oils as there are other long chain fatty acids included in the products.
