Chlorazepate In Canine Patients With Epilepsy

Neurology

These questions were submitted during a past webinar on the topic of Canine Epilepsy:

Questions:
How does clorazepate compare to the other emergency meds (midazolam, diazepam)? Is oral the only way to administer clorazepate? Is clorazepate as effective as midazolam in stopping clusters?

Answers provided by a subject matter expert panelist:
Clorazepate is an oral medication (only).

We do not have studies on clorazepate to control seizures in dogs as we do for midazolam - but in general we would expect a drug that is administered either intravenously or intranasally to work more rapidly to control seizures than a drug given orally.
