Aggression With Prednisone?

Behavior

This question was submitted during a past webinar titled "Medical Problems That Look Like Behavior Problems" ...

Question:
Have you heard of or seen aggression becoming worse after initiating an anti-inflammatory dose of prednisone for allergic skin disease?

Answer
by E'Lise Christensen, DVM, DACVB:

Yup! It's funny, we are SO careful about treating aggression with anti-aggression and anti-anxiety meds because of fears related to increased irritability, but as a profession we rarely hesitate to recommend pred to aggressive or anxious patients. Not that we should, but we should AT LEAST make sure to warn clients about these as potential side effects.
