Otitis externa is a common and often recurrent condition affecting the ears of dogs and cats. The condition is typically multifactorial in origin and causes can include allergies (especially atopic dermatitis), masses, parasites (e.g. ear mites), or foreign bodies that can initiate inflammation.
Secondary infections can then take hold in the altered ear environment and perpetuating factors - like chronic changes to the ear canal and poor airflow - can make resolution challenging. Without identifying and addressing all contributing factors, otitis can become a chronic or recurrent issue, leading to significant discomfort and reduced quality of life for affected pets.
This webinar provides practical insights into diagnosing, treating, and preventing future otitis in small animals. Discussion will include:
- Why otitis occurs - underlying causes and the critical importance of addressing them to achieve treatment success
- Clinical signs of otitis externa
- The importance and benefit of ear cleaning
- The basic pillars of treatment to manage ear infections effectively
- Prevention strategies and tips to reduce recurrence
