In this Pet Health Summit session you will hear from veterinary specialists and experts in the area of canine chronic kidney disease (CKD).
The focus of this segment will be on the multimodal approach to caring for dogs with chronic kidney disease. We will review the evidence available for commonly recommended treatments such as kidney diets and fluid therapy while also discussing practical tips for implementing these in a wide variety of cases including those where there might be some barrier to easily starting them. The discussion will also include other potential treatment targets based on the current and emerging evidence of potential risk factors for progression of disease as well as how to balance all of the different potential treatments in a practical manner.
Discussion includes:
- The role of nutrition including diet manipulation (what and when) and the importance of meeting caloric requirements
- The role of fluid therapy and how to meet patient needs
- Other primary targets including phosphorus, acidosis, electrolyte imbalances, uremic toxins, anemia, and blood pressure
Running time: 1 hr 24 mins (including 22 mins of question / answer)
