This is the first of a two part series on the topic of immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) in dogs - a disease that significantly impacts their wellbeing and is an important cause of mortality in affected dogs. This program will serve to empower our audience to make informed decisions regarding the care and management of dogs diagnosed with IMHA. In this first segment the discussion includes:
- How to recognize possible IMHA and properly diagnose the disease
- How to differentiate important types of IMHA and how this can affect making the diagnosis and treatment recommendations for affected patients
- Standard therapy for treating IMHA with glucocorticoids
- Transfusion medicine for managing anemic patients
