Losing patients and "near misses" are an unfortunate reality in veterinary medicine. These incidents can occur due to a mistake, adverse event, or an unexpected twist or turn in the case. These moments can be deeply distressing, affecting not only patient outcomes but also the mental well-being of the caregivers involved. Yet, most practices lack a structured approach for handling these situations, leaving teams vulnerable to feelings of guilt, repeated errors, and burnout.

Debriefing after an adverse event offers those involved an opportunity to analyze their thought processes, actions, strengths, opportunities for improvement, and their emotional states. In addition to being key to establishing improvements in patient care and safety, debriefing is also an essential component to supporting psychological safety and emotional well-being in the workplace.

This expert-led workshop is designed to help veterinary professionals understand what debriefing is and to develop an actionable strategy for implementing debriefing protocols in their practice.

What You’ll Learn:

โœ”  What debriefing is and why teams should debrief after adverse events and 'near misses'
โœ”  Debriefing types and models
โœ”  Guidelines for conducting effective debriefings
โœ”  Characteristics of and how to train effective debriefing facilitators in your practice

Difficult moments can become opportunities for growth, resilience, and improved patient care! Join this interactive workshop and learn how to incorporate debriefing as a tool in your practice to improve patient care and outcomes, support veterinary professionals, and foster a culture of growth and resilience.
