Canine hepatopathies include a broad range of inflammatory, infectious, hereditary, neoplastic, toxic, traumatic and reactive disorders. For most non-vascular disorders, a definitive diagnosis is only possible with microscopic evaluation of hepatic tissue.
This presentation will focus on the benefits and draw backs of various sampling methods including:
- fine needle aspirate and cytology
- percutaneous, ultrasound-guided biopsy
- laparoscopic biopsy
- open surgical biopsy
Utilization of histopathology stains will also be discussed.
